Saturday Night

Another Saturday night home with my honey.  That's nice.  It's a little chilly out so no sitting outside but there is a fire in the fireplace.
Just want to say Happy Trails to our friends Larry and Gerry as they start their journey east tomorrow morning, not to early.  Hope the weather, the roads and the RV all work together for a nice quiet journey.  Have a safe trip and hope to see you next fall at CCRV.

Great Grand Daughter

Well, it's still real chilly in northeast Illinois and I'm longing to be back in sunny Tucson, Arizona but that's not going to happen till this fall at the earliest.
So today we met up with our oldest grand daughter, her significant other and their beautiful baby girl.  The only thing wrong with the day was we were at a restaurant so space was at a premium but we enjoyed her ever so much.  She hasn't learned how to laugh, just make noises that sound a lot like crying.  Her smile is to die for.  She loves her daddy and the feeling is mutual.  Papa made faces and talked like Donald Duck.  The older grandkids will remember that.
I can't, for the life of me, figure out why people take out their dislike of the parent on the child.  I'm not the least bit happy that our grand daughter wasn't married when this precious life formed but it's not the child's fault.  I couldn't not hold her and kiss her and smell that sweet baby smell.  They will all be in my prayers for the real people  they're hurting is themselves.  They're missing out on seeing this beautiful human being grow up.

Getting Caught Up

Two weeks Friday since we got back to IL and I think we're finally catching up.  The new deep freeze arrived this afternoon to replace the one that died last fall.  Don't know what I'm going to put in it since everything is in the frig freezer now and if we empty it out then it will be empty.  Guess we need a trip for meat or rent out shelves.  It's not a big one but it sure is empty.
It was even nice enough to sit outside in my swing on our front porch.  Thank you Dennis, I know I haven't told you that enough, for making me the old fashioned swing.
Even worked on my new sewing machine today.  Decided to finish up the quilt for our youngest great grand daughter since we'll see her Friday for the first time.  I can't believe she was 5 months old today.
Now we need a great grand son for the boys quilt I made.  No prospects as of yet.

Cold Tuesday

Day started out as usual, juice, drugs, cereal and coffee.  Read the Trib and try to work some puzzles.  But in the back of my head was a thought.....a pleasant one....one placed their yesterday by Ron.  It's one he's been trying to get to stick for three years but finally accomplished by buying us a second home.   Now we need duplicates.  No more hauling things back and forth.  Most of everything we need we already had in the 5th wheel but a few things weren't meant to travel.
The sewing machine and surger are two of those things.  I ended up buying an inexpensive surger.....oops, Santa brought be an inexpensive surger to use out there and I decided to leave my 35 year old Singer sewing machine there too.
The surger I got for my birthday last year rode to AZ and back in it's carrying case, never leaving it's case.  I decided it was just to big to deal with out there so it's back home in it's niche in the sewing center.
So we've been looking around for another sewing machine for here in IL.  Don't need anything real fancy.  The embroidery machines are fantastic.  They make beautiful designs but they cost a lot of money too.  I started out in Lockport, went to Cresthill and then Joliet ending up in Morris.  One of my first objectives was to buy one close to home so if it needed service it would be close.  Well the price knocked Lockport out before we left the store.  I know prices have gone up since we got mine but I'm not prepared to make that kind of commentment for a machine I won't ever use most of the features.
Cresthill went well, I actually had it down to a machine but I had already decided I wasn't buying that day.
After some email back and forth with my daughter in law, she uses sewing machines everyday, I learned of a place in Joliet on Essington Rd with a connection to Morris and decided to give it a shot.  I really liked the one the clerk showed (not that she informed me she had bought one for her grandma) and placed it on the top of my to buy list.
One last stop, Morris, The clerk asked questions on what I would use on it, types of fabric and such.  She sat me and Ron down and made sure I knew what a certain machine would do.  Ron even paid attention.  The price was more in my line so today we went back to Morris, had lunch at R Place and bought a sewing machine.  Before I even paid for it she took it out of the box and sat me down to run it myself so I knew what to do.
I realize this has gotten a little long but I wanted anyone who might be interested in a new machine that there are a variety of price ranges and abilities out there.
BTW, lunch at R Place was a bland experience except for  the soup.  Should have stuck with the breakfast.

Catching Up

I apologize for the lack of blogging.  My life hasn't been to exciting lately, thankfully.  We are back to Illinois, much to early in my opinion.
The trip home was uneventful as far as the trip itself.  I miscalculated a couple of the legs and Ron ended up with a very long day and a very short day.  The short day we decided to find something to do between Socorro and Raton, NM.
Ron took a left in Santa Fe and headed toward Taos.   I'd always heard of Taso as an artist colony.  We didn't have the time to do it justice but we did do some walking and enjoyed a great lunch.  It reminded us of Tubac, AZ except much larger with it's different price ranges of object d'art.  Lunch was recommended by one of the shop keepers and was an excellent choice.  Graham's Grill.  We chose outdoor seating  so we never got to see the inside.  We both had the split pea soup and Ron having the salmon burger and I a Caesar salad.  I opted to use my critics license in Trip Adviser and tout the quality of the food.  The price wasn't bad either.
That night was spent in one of the better Best Western's with an in house restaurant.  The restaurant was the reason for the discrepancy in mileage.  We had had a delicious cob salad there in October on our way out to AZ and just wanted to have another.  Ron has a tendency to not want to leave the motel to eat after we arrive so if they don't have an in house restaurant, we just nibble on what we have with us.  Which is what happened in Kearney, Nebraska.  We tried a different Best Western closer to the interstate but it didn't have an in house restaurant.  The exception to prove the rule came in Coralville, Iowa.  The hotel has an in house restaurant and lounge but we walked across the street to Perkins Steak and Cake.  To prove we shouldn't leave the hotels Ron forgot his cap and when he went to claim it the next morning, someone had taken it.  So if you see someone in Corralville, IA with a camouflage John Deer baseball cap......it's probably not Ron's.
