Catching Up

I apologize for the lack of blogging.  My life hasn't been to exciting lately, thankfully.  We are back to Illinois, much to early in my opinion.
The trip home was uneventful as far as the trip itself.  I miscalculated a couple of the legs and Ron ended up with a very long day and a very short day.  The short day we decided to find something to do between Socorro and Raton, NM.
Ron took a left in Santa Fe and headed toward Taos.   I'd always heard of Taso as an artist colony.  We didn't have the time to do it justice but we did do some walking and enjoyed a great lunch.  It reminded us of Tubac, AZ except much larger with it's different price ranges of object d'art.  Lunch was recommended by one of the shop keepers and was an excellent choice.  Graham's Grill.  We chose outdoor seating  so we never got to see the inside.  We both had the split pea soup and Ron having the salmon burger and I a Caesar salad.  I opted to use my critics license in Trip Adviser and tout the quality of the food.  The price wasn't bad either.
That night was spent in one of the better Best Western's with an in house restaurant.  The restaurant was the reason for the discrepancy in mileage.  We had had a delicious cob salad there in October on our way out to AZ and just wanted to have another.  Ron has a tendency to not want to leave the motel to eat after we arrive so if they don't have an in house restaurant, we just nibble on what we have with us.  Which is what happened in Kearney, Nebraska.  We tried a different Best Western closer to the interstate but it didn't have an in house restaurant.  The exception to prove the rule came in Coralville, Iowa.  The hotel has an in house restaurant and lounge but we walked across the street to Perkins Steak and Cake.  To prove we shouldn't leave the hotels Ron forgot his cap and when he went to claim it the next morning, someone had taken it.  So if you see someone in Corralville, IA with a camouflage John Deer baseball cap......it's probably not Ron's.
