New Years Eve/Day

Happy & Healthy New Year to all.
The park put a new years eve on the calender but did post any of the details till later in this past week.  Not real big on going out, even though it's just a few feet away we decided to stay home and celebrate in our own way.   We talked it over and opted for our way.
Romaine lettuce was cut up and spun dry.  Mushrooms were scrubbed and sliced into nice thick slices.  Steaks were fixed to order.  Ron with oil and salt, mine with salt and brown sugar.  Huge baking potatoes were scrubbed clean and wrapped in paper towels, placed in our potato bag and put in the microwave oven to be started when the steaks go on.  I prefer to get everything ready before we start so I can enjoy the ritual too.  A special container that Ron's foster parents gave us 37 years ago on our first visit to Arkansas was filled with ice, then vodka poured over ice with a cap of vermouth and then filled back up with ice.  Left to meld together till the Caesar salad was ready.
Caesar salad 101 starts with the dressing made ahead of time containing lots of garlic and anchovies in some form.  No anchovies, no Caesar.  We've stopped the raw egg yolk years ago when the first scare came out and found we couldn't tell the difference in the taste. A generous portion of  fresh grated parmigiana reggiano, fresh squeezed lemon juice and croutons were then added and retossed.  Makes me hungry for another one.
Starting with the salad and a martini we settle back and enjoyed our meal we prepared and shared together.
Now today is pork roast and kraut and potatoes all cooked together in one pot.  Not sure when this tradition started but it's a good one since we both like all three ingredients.  Rumor has it  that it's a German tradition but since neither of us are German, you'll have to figure out the origin .

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful New Years Eve. I haven't had steak & caesar salad in a long time. Hint, Hint. Love to you both.

  2. If you can talk your husband into not having a heart attack when I put brown sugar on my steak and Dad dips his in ketchup, We'll have you over for steak and Caesar this summer.
